PokerStars Sunday January 15th 2012 Tournament Report

January 16th, 2012 Poker Articles

Despite traffic numbers in the Sunday Majors being slightly smaller this past weekend all of the tournaments went flying over the guaranteed prize pools. The 2012 Aussie Open is now underway and many of the big tournament players are down under right now getting ready for the 2012 Aussie Open Main Event. With some of the best tournament players in Australia this past weekend and this weekend coming up there are great opportunities to try and win one of the Sunday Majors at PokerStars.

PokerStars Sunday Million

• Entrants – 7379 / Prize Pool – $1,475,800

It took over 12 hours to complete the PokerStars Sunday Million, but if you were able to make the final table I’m sure the 12-hour grind was enjoyable. Over 7K poker players joined the Sunday Million and this past weekend there was a deal made once the final table was down to just two players. Ticiz won the tournament and took home $200K while Roosi88 finished in 2nd place after the deal was made and took home $183K. Nordlending also broke the 6-figure milestone this weekend, as Nordlending took home $118K for earning a 3rd place finish in the Sunday Million.

PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up

• Entrants – 3675 / Prize Pool – $734,000

The Sunday Warm-Up ended up with a prize pool that managed to eclipse the $700K mark although numbers were down a bit this week compared to recent averages in the Sunday Warm-Up. With the prize pool a bit smaller than usual there ended up not being a deal in the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up over the weekend. MikiOpasniy was the only player to win six figures this week in the Sunday Warm-Up, as the player won $115K. FinancialPOK won $85K for coming in 2nd place and LiroLa won $60K for taking down 3rd place in the Sunday Warm-Up.

PokerStars Sunday 500

• Entrants – 812 / Prize Pool – $506,000

The PokerStars Sunday 500 was actually bigger this past weekend than I thought it would be. Over 800 players took part in the event with a huge $500 buy-in. No deal was made in the Sunday 500, but that isn’t really surprising. The high stakes players that take part in the Sunday 500 aren’t that fond of deals. PBMozak earned 1st place honours in the Sunday 500 this weekend and won the grand prize of $73K. Crisper took home $52K for 2nd place and StrungOut1 earned just over $40K with his/her 3rd place finish in the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up.

Make sure you check out the Sunday Majors this weekend at PokerStars. I expect the playing field to be smaller in the tournaments because of the 2012 Aussie Open Main Event. The Sunday 500 will definitely have a smaller playing field and the other events will most likely have a slightly smaller playing field than this past Sunday. If you need to fund your PokerStars account use the bonus code “STARS600” (New Players) or “100K” (Existing Players) to receive access to a new promotion at PokerStars.
