Those darn all-iners

March 5th, 2010 Poker Articles

Online, people go all-in like it’s going out of style. Really, sorry for the upcoming rant, but where are these people coming from? The low-stakes, limit games and the sit n’ goes are just havens for these poisonous players who seem to have no regard for losing their money or the purity of the game of poker whatsoever. Bitter? You could say that.

I hate to throw around the word luck in poker articles, but the all-iners have forced it out of me. The game is all luck pre-flop when you’ve caught of few of these pieces of work at your table. They’re going to just push in, one almost every time.

And in their heads, some are probably figuring their strategy is to hit big early or they won’t have a chance at all. Seriously, if that’s your strategy and you make a move with the wrong hand, you shouldn’t be playing poker for money. Raising or folding isn’t the same, it’s not even in the same ballpark.

And to clear the air, I’m actually not writing this after losing a bunch of money. The last few times I’ve played online – conservatively – I’ve won a little and lost a little, hovering around even. But when I spot these people at my table, I’m gone faster than Kaiser Soze.

The worst part is if you chose to stay, they force you to play like they do, and you can’t do it the other way around. If you have a good, playable hand, the rules tell you to get in the game. Hell, you don’t need rules to tell you that. But now that doesn’t mean matching a $5, $10 bet…it means you gotta put it all on the line because someone else jumped the gun.

It’s nice to send one of the all-iners packing, but like some mythical beast, if you cut off a limp, another one just grows in its place. How do you cut off the head? I wish I knew.
