Dealers Choice

What is Dealers Choice?

Dealer’s choice is a form of poker or other games where each player who acts as the dealer gets to select a new variant for the players to play. Betting structure and the overall game is typically the same. It can be played for free or for real money with bets usually kept to a minimal. Some forms of Dealer’s Choice card games call for wild cards, while others may use kill or burn cards. Most of these games are derivatives of the standard games of poker such as Holdem, Stud and Draw, with some twists to keep the game interesting. Dealer’s Choice poker is played mainly in home games, and although these games are very popular and fun, you won’t find them in any local casino.

Community Cards – This is the board in which all players will be able to use a certain number of cards to complete their hand.

Legs – A game which is called with leg such as a double legger means players will need to win a certain number of games before being awarded the pot. Typically when a fixed number of legs has been called, players will take that number of chips from their stack and place them in front. As a leg is won, the player will pull one of the chips back.

Kill Cards – Kill cards are cards which literally kill your hand. The dealer must call out the kill cards prior to dealing the game and if a player has that particular card or receives it their hand is now disqualified whether they had the nuts or not.

Match Pot – In a match pot game all losing players will have to place the amount equivalent to the pot value at the beginning of the next hand. Watch these games; they can get expensive real fast

Drop Games – This rule applies to games such as Guts where players need to show their hands at the same time. In a drop game it’s common for players to place a chip in their hand to drop or leave their hand empty if they don’t plan on sticking around. The chip is used so that each player is ready prior to anyone showing their cards, and the player cannot renege and decide at the last second that they want to play after they have seen cards.
