FBI Watching Full Tilt Poker?

February 22nd, 2010

Rumors are constantly circulating online and it can be hard to tell when something is real or just a rumor. Message boards and forums see poker players discussing poker rooms and sometimes a rumor can form. Currently news has broken out that the FBI may be watching Full Tilt Poker.

The reports are unconfirmed but it looks as though the FBI is watching the poker room very closely. According to posts on various message boards the FBI has been contacting players from Washington State. Washington State is the only state in the US that gambling laws target online players specifically. Players in the state have been told that charges against them have been filed and are pending.
Many in the industry think the FBI is looking into the poker room to prepare to enforce the UIGEA, which will begin on June 1st. many believe the FBI are looking at the financial transactions rather than the players at the site.

Players who have been talked to by FBI have stated the visits were unannounced. The agents seemed to be solely interested in how transactions at Full Tilt worked. Several players stated they felt the line of questioning suggested the FBI was looking for information. This made many think a case was being created to stop transactions with Full Tilt Poker once the UIGEA is in effect.

It looks as though the poker room could be facing problems once the UIGEA does take effect. We will see in the coming months if more people step forward saying that the FBI have contacted them. Only time will tell what will happen and what is rumor and what is the truth.
