Clonie Gowen vs. Full Tilt Poker Civil Suit Dismissed

February 15th, 2010

The case between poker pro Clonie Gowen and Full Tilt Poker has been one of the most high profile cases in the poker industry. Recently the case made headlines again when the United States District Court in Las Vegas, Nevada determined that the civil lawsuit filed by Gowen against Full Tilt was without merit. The Judge in the case dismissed it fully.

On February 10th a nine page order was rendered stating that Judge Robert C. Jones issued his rulings on the third amended complaint filed by Gowen’s attorneys. The complaint was filed against Tiltware the company which creates the software for Full Tilt as well as other defendants including fellow poker pros.

In May of last year the Judge found that Gowen’s suit could not target individual members of Full Tilt team. He dismissed the case against the individuals but amended the complaints against Tiltware, Ray Bitar and Howard Lederer.

With this decision by the judge, Gowen will no longer be able to take actions against Full Tilt Poker. the nine page order cites where Gowen’s attorneys were unable to prove their case. The order cited that the third amended complaint did not state its case clearly enough to be adjudicated.

The case has been running since late 2008 after Gowen was let go from the list of Full Tilt Poker sponsored pros. Gowen was seeking a 1% ownership which she alleged was owed to her via an oral agreement with those from Full Tilt Poker. Gowen claimed that 1% of the company was worth as much as $40 million. The recent decision in the case finally brings this long legal battle to an end. The official judgment by Judge Jones was filed on February 11th.
