Full Tilt Attempts to Set Record and Gets Outdone by PokerStars
Jul 21, 2009

Full Tilt made a world record attempt this past Sunday night and it was a great success, until PokerStars stole the record back. Full Tilt held a tournament to break the PokerStars record of 35,000 players competing in an online tournament which was created earlier this year. Full Tilt capped their tournament at 50,000 and all 50,000 spots were taken but PokerStars knew of the attempt and outshined the number two online poker room by holding their own record breaker tournament with a larger cap for players.

Full Tilt heavily promoted their online record breaker tournament, which was a $500,000 guaranteed tournament with a $5 buy-in. the top 7,500 spots would be paid with $45,000 going to first place. The event was capped at 50,000 and all places were filled and the record was broken. However, since Full Tilt promoted the event, PokerStars got in on the action and set up their own record breaking tournament.

Full Tilt PokerPokerStars one upped Full Tilt by offering a $130,000 guaranteed tournament with a $1 buy-in. this of course would bring out the masses and the number one poker room would draw all 65,000 of their capacity to earn the world record back for most players competing in an online tournament.

Full Tilt’s mistake was the heavy promotion and the 50,000 cap. If they had extended their capacity or not announced the capacity they were going to hold it would have been a little harder for PokerStars to come back on the same day with more players. But I guess PokerStars is the number one poker room for a reason. They see and opportunity and they seize it!
