FTOPS XIII Ante Up For Africa Event
Aug 17, 2009
This year’s Full Tilt Online Poker Series schedule included a new event, an Ante Up For Africa charity poker tournament. The Ante Up For Charity tournaments have become quite popular among the poker community as they give players a chance to play their favorite game while helping a worthy cause. The last Ante Up For Africa took place during the 2009 WSOP and was very successful.
The FTOPS XIII charity tournament had a buy-in of $100 plus $20 with the $20 fee going toward the charity. The tournament drew a crowd of 2,367 and raised almost $50,000 for the Ante Up For Africa charity and $236,700 in prize money.
The event was a super-stack 9 handed NL Hold’em tournament and was hosted by Actor Don Cheadle. Cheadle plays online at Full Tilt and was one of the creators of the Ante Up For Africa charity. The organization raises money for the Darfur region of Africa.
Along with Cheadle, twenty six other Full Tilt Red Pros competed in the event including David Pham, Erick Lindgren, Allen Cunningham and Scott Fischman. Although a good number of pros competed, none of them were able to finish in the money.
The two players to make it to heads up play were warren_ace1 and berkey11. The more experienced online player was berkey11 but warren_ace1 was able to take down the final pot and win just over $48,000.
