Tom Dwan Wins Full Tilt Poker Million Dollar Cash Game
Sep 22, 2009
Full Tilt’s Million Dollar Cash Game has wrapped up and Tom Dwan was the winner of a massive record breaking pot. Dwan has been on a roll this year and this is one of many big accomplishments for the poker pro. Dwan won $1.1 million during the tournament which broke the previous record for the biggest pot ever won during a televised event.
This is the fourth season of The Million Dollar Cash Game and this year the game featured the $1.1 million prize. each poker pro competing in the event had to post $100,000 of own money to compete. The players participating in the invitation only event were: Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson, Gus Hansen, Mike Matusow, Allen Cunningham and Patrik Antonius, all of Team Full Tilt. Along with the Full Tilt Poker pros was Tom Dwan.
Right before the massive pot was won, Dwan was down but reclaimed his losses in a hand with Cyril Mouly. To win the record setting pot, Dwan raised pre-flop and Phil Ivey re-raised from the small blind. The flop came Q-3-5 with two clubs and Ivey bet $40,000. Dwan called and the 4 of hearts was hit on the turn.
Ivey bet once again and Dwan pushed to $240,000. Ivey shoved over the top and Dwan called all-in turning over 6-7 for the nuts. Ivey showed A-2 for a smaller straight and drew dead on the river which gave Dwan the large $1.1 million pot.
The record pot won by Dwan surpassed the previous record set by Barry Greenstein of $919,600. Greenstein won his pot during season five of the High Stakes Poker show.
Managing Director of Emblaze Productions, James Hopkins, said, "After almost 20 hours of play, other players stepped aside as the Million Dollar Cash Game turned shorthanded. Three of the world's elite players; Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius and Tom Dwan, started playing blinds of US$1k, US$2. It was great to watch."
The Million Dollar Cash Game of Full Tilt Poker will air on Sky Sports in the UK in January 2010. This show will feature commentary from Robert Williamson III and will definitely be interesting to watch!
